The good. The bad. And the AAUGH!

You remember a few weeks ago, when I fell in the ice while running? Not too bad at the time. I fell at mile two, got up and ran five more miles. No problem. I even went home and cleaned the apartment for a couple of hours before taking a nap.

It wasn’t until I woke up that I realized how bad it really was. I put both feet on the ground, stood up and screamed from the pain. My neck, my back, my hip. Blinding PAIN.

It got so bad that I couldn’t function. Dealing with the pain was actually draining my energy. I couldn’t even sit in a chair without crying. As in, actual tears. Not just whining.

So I went to my doctor, then a chiropractor. It was a deep tissue bruise and… the whiplash, and I had it bad. So now, two weeks and no runs later, I feel somewhat better. And I say “somewhat” because I’m still waking up every morning with a sore neck and tight back.

I was doing so well. I was hitting my goal pace, and I was running the distance. Solid. So why? Why the setback? I feel just like Charlie Brown. You know- when Lucy jerks the football away at the last second and he falls on the ground? Yeah. AAUGH!

I normally take things like this with a grain of salt and enjoy the break. But not this time. This one made me angry. This one made me bitter. I had finally gotten back into my passion, grown stronger as a runner and was ready for anything. Then BAM. Literally.

Tomorrow marks my first day back to my regular running schedule. Here’s to hoping that I can go the distance this week.
